Jan. 24th, 2007 @ 07:18 am Worshippers turn to Greek gods

Jan. 22 - A Greek group of believers has revived the worship of Zeus and other ancient deities.

The group, who believe in the 12 ancient gods of Greek mythology, have cemented their practice by holding a ritual at an ancient temple in Athens for the first time.

Last year a Greek court formally recognized the existence of the religion of these "Ancient Believers", revived after 2000 years.

Deborah Kyvrikosaios reports (VIDEO & REUTERS REPORT).

My page for the Transgender Day of Remembrance (20th November) is currently up at Laura Seabrook's Web Comics.

I was glad to be a part of this this year, and glad that I actually had a storyline that fitted the day! You'll find links to many other web comics on that page. I haven't been able to check all of them yet myself, but they are worth looking at.

LA LEYENDA DE AQUILES
The mith of Achilles

Pietro Paolini, Italian, about 1625 - 1630. Oil on canvas

Español, (versión propia)....English version down.....

The Discovery of Achilles among the Daughters of Lycomedes, by Jan de Bray (1627–1697) in 1664

The Achilles Leyend
English (from: http://www.philipresheph.com/demodokos/achilles/achil7.htm)

Achilles' life on the island of Scyros, where he dressed and lived a girl among girls. This was because his mother Thetis had some knowledge of the future and knew he would die young if he joined the war, and had hidden him there to prevent that from happening. Thetis, entrusted him to Lycomedes, king of the island of Scyros.

He took care of him, dressing him as a woman amongst the maidens and changing his name; the girls called him Pyrrha, because in Greece reddish-blond hair is called "pyrrhon" (flame-coloured).

The Greeks, however, when they found out where he was hidden, sent ambassadors to Lycomedes, asking that Achilles be sent to strengthen the Danaan forces. The king denied that he was at his court, but gave them authority to search the palace.

When they were unable to find out which 'girl' was Achilles, Ulysses placed maidenly gifts in the palace courtyard, amongst them a shield and a spear. Then, suddenly, he commanded a trumpeter to sound and his men to clash their arms and shout.

Achilles, concluding that the enemy was upon them, tore off his woman's clothes and snatched up the shield and the spear. By this he was identified, and he promised his services and his Myrmidon soldiers to the Argives.

LESSON 1.
UNO DE LOS MAS GRANDES HEROES DE TODA LA HISTORIA HUMANA VIVIO COMO UNA MUJER, SER FEMENINO NO LO HIZO MENOS GRANDE

ONE OF THE MOST GREAT HERO OF ALL HUMAN HISTORY LIVED LIKE A WOMAN. BE FEMININE DONT HAVE LESS GREAT

LESSON 2
HOY DIA NI LA FEMINIDAD ES EXCUSIVA DE LAS MUJERES, NI LAS ARMAS SON EXCLUSIVAS DE LOS HOMBRES.......HOY ULISES TENDRIA UN PROBLEMA

TODAY THE FEMINITY IS NOT EXCLUSSIVE FOR THE WOMAN, AND THE WEAPON IS NOT EXCLUSIVE OF THE MAN...TODAY ULYSSES HAVE A PROBLEM

In ancient Rome on the Canna intrat, the brotherhood of cannophori went into procession through the streets, carrying reeds cut from the banks of the Almo. This was the beginning of nine days of penitence when people abstained from bread, pomegranates, quinces, pork, and fish. Milk was mainly drunk instead.

Instead of a procession through the streets, my procession will be to America, this time around. I'll see folk over there soon!

Current Mood: contentcontent
Well, I'm off to the Season of the Tree at Palenville, New York, in America. This wouldn't have happened without  a lot of help from friends over there, one in particular. Thank you Susan!

But the process was so frustrating, as it involved online commerce. Four attempts and nothing would work. Over six hours. In the end I took a break and then tried again, and it it worked!

I have to wonder if some of the experiences I've been having lately are a result of my resolution not to worry any more. Since that date I've had the car get a lot worse, blowing smoke and underpowered; had an accident that I wasn't aware of (!) and have to pay $400 in repair costs; my computer went haywire for two weeks making it hard to keep in contact with anyone.

Even if I didn't (mostly) worry, it's been frustrating! And yet, I had faith, and help, and so far everything that needed to happen, has.

I'll see people soon.

Rather than clean the house, I decided to obsessively update the entry at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modern_Gallae in the Wikipedia. It's a major edit from what was there before. Not perfect yet, and in need of more details from folk who are prepared to edit it - I'm not that happy with the links I found for the Divine Mother.
